Google Drive vs. Amazon Drive

Part 1. Google Drive vs. Amazon Drive – Brief Introduction

Google Drive is a file storage and synchronization service launched in 2012 by Google. It allows you to store files on their servers, synchronize files across devices, and share files. Besides that, it also allows you to edit documents, spreadsheets, presentations etc.. Worth to mention that Google Drive also offers apps for Windows, macOS computers, Android and iOS devices.

Amazon Drive, formerly known as Cloud Drive, offers secure cloud storage, file backup, file sharing and photo printing service. Using an Amazon account, you can manage the data in Amazon Drive through multiple devices like web browsers, desktop applications, mobile phones, and tablets. If you are using a Kindle Fire device or subscribed Amazon Prime, free unlimited photo storage are offered to you.

Part 2. Google Drive vs. Amazon Drive – Cloud Storage

Dropbox offers everyone 15 GB storage plus unlimited free storage for up to 16MP photos, to get more, it will cost:

$1.99 each month for 100GB,

$9.99 each month for 1TB,

$99.99 each month for 10TB,

There would be discounts for annual plans.

As for Amazon Drive, you can only get 5GB free storage. If you are a member of Prime subscription club, you can get unlimited cloud storage for photos. To get more storage, you need to pay:

$11.99 per year for 100GB,

$59.99 per year for 1 TB (up to 30TB available for additional $59.99 per TB)

Part 3. Google Drive vs. Amazon Drive – File Sharing and Sync

Since Google Drive has apps available for Mac/Windows computer and iOS/Android devices, any editions you made in your Google Drive folder will automatically be updated via any device logged in your Google account. You can also share documents with other users and allow them to make real-time edits in the cloud.

When it comes to Amazon Drive, even though you still have access to the data, upload or download data just like on Google Drive, the service is relatively basic at this point. There is no real option for collaboration or maintaining folder structure in the online backups.

Part 4. Google Drive vs. Amazon Drive – Security

Google Drive and Amazon Drive are pretty similar in terms of security. They both encrypt your data both in transit and on their servers, however, they don’t offer client-side encryption. The data are accessible via 3rd party apps.
