If you have just updated your iPhone to the latest iOS 12 and are unable to find the restrictions menu, this guide will show you how to access restrictions on an iPhone that runs iOS 11 or latest iOS 12. Read on to learn how.
Restrictions, also known as Parental Controls, allow you to restrict certain operations that you don’t want for your kids to perform on your iPhone. The feature has been available for a long time on most iPhone models but with iOS 12, it has moved to a new place which has made many users think Apple has removed the feature off of their latest iOS version. That is not the case, though.
In the guide below, you are going to learn how to access restrictions on an iPhone that runs the latest iOS 12. If you happen to use an old model of the iPhone, you will learn steps for that as well.
iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR all come with iOS 12 built right into them so the following steps for enabling restrictions in iOS 12 should work for your iPhone straight out of the box. These steps should work even on those iPhone models that are not mentioned here as long as they run iOS 12. Here’s how to access restrictions in iOS 12:
Step 1On your iPhone running iOS 12, tap on the Settings app > Tap on Screen Time as that is where you can enable the restrictions option from.
Step 2If you haven’t turned on this feature, tap on “Turn On Screen Time” > Then follow the instructions to set your iPhone.
Step 3 Tap on the option that says Content & Privacy Restrictions > In order to protect your restriction settings, you will be asked to create a four-digit passcode that will let you modify restriction settings on your device.
Step 4Enter in the passcode and move forward > You can now modify the parental control settings however you wish.
If you have an iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 7, or an iPhone 6 and haven’t updated to the latest iOS 12 yet, the above steps for accessing restrictions will not work for you. Fortunately, you too can enable restrictions on your iPhone without having to update to iOS 12 and the following shows how to access restrictions on iPhone.
Step 1Launch the Settings app on your iPhone > Tap on General > Restrictions.
Step 2Tap on “Enable Restrictions” > You will be asked to set a passcode that will allow you to change your restriction settings on your iPhone. Do so and move forward.
Step 3The restrictions feature is now enabled on your iPhone and you can access it using your newly created passcode.
If you can’t find the restrictions option on your newly updated or old iPhone, the above guide will help you locate and enable it on your iPhone. You can then set appropriate settings to prevent your kids from doing things they shouldn’t be doing.
