Settings app is one of the places on your iPhone from where you can change pretty much all the functions of your device. The app lets you configure your lock screen as well and the following shows how you do it.
Step 1. Launch the Settings app from the springboard of your iPhone or iPad.
Step 2. When the app opens, scroll down and tap on the option that says Wallpaper. It allows you to set a wallpaper for the lock screen on your device.
Step 3. On the following screen, tap on the Choose a New Wallpaper option at the top.
Step 4. A number of wallpapers will be shown on your screen. Select the one you would like to apply to your device.
Step 5. When the wallpaper is displayed full-screen, tap on the option that says Set. Then, choose Set Lock Screen from the options available on your screen.
The above will set your chosen wallpaper as the background photo for the lock screen on your iPhone or iPad. That is how you make a change to the iPhone lock screen settings to change the appearance of the lock screen.
If you have your favorite photo saved in the Photos app on your device and you would like to use it as the background for your lock screen, you will need to use the Photos app instead of the Settings app to do the task. The following shows how you get the job done using the Photos app:

Step 2. Tap on the share icon when the photo opens full-screen. Then, select Use as Wallpaper from the share options available on your screen.

Customizing the lock screen of your iPhone or iPad is not limited to just changing wallpapers. There are many more things you can do to give a custom look and functionality to your lock screen.
The following are a few of the ways to change how the lock screen functions on your iPhone or iPad:
By default, all the notifications you receive on your device are shown on your lock screen. If you do not want it this way and you would rather prefer a cleaner lock screen, you can disable the notifications from being shown on your lock screen.
Step 1. Launch the Settings app on your device and tap on Notifications. It will let you manage your notification settings.
Step 2. Select the app whose notifications you do not want to see on your lock screen. On the following screen, turn the toggle for Show on Lock Screen to the OFF position. It will disable the lock screen notifications for the chosen app on your device.
The wallet contains many of your booking cards such as your movie tickets, flight tickets, and so on. If you do not want for these to show up on your lock screen, you can have them disabled using the following steps.
Step 1. Launch the Settings app on your device and tap on Touch ID & Passcode.
Step 2. Enter your passcode to access the menu.
Step 3. Scroll all the way down on the following screen and turn off the Wallet option. The Wallet data will be removed from the lock screen on your iPhone or iPad.
Home Control lets you control many of the items from your device, but if you think it is not safe for it to appear on your lock screen, you can disable it using the following steps.
Step 1. Open the Settings app on your device and tap on Touch ID & Passcode.
Step 2. Type your passcode to get access to the menu.
Step 3. Disable the option that says Home Control. Home Control options will no longer appear on the lock screen of your iPhone or iPad.
Control Center allows you to perform a number of tasks from a single panel on your device. By default, it works on the lock screen as well and that means anyone using your device can access its features. If you would like to prevent that from happening, you may disable the option as shown below.
Step 1. Head to Settings > Control Centre on your iOS-based device.
Step 2. On the following screen, turn off the option that says Access on Lock Screen. It will block Control Center from being accessed on your lock screen.
Siri is quite a helpful assistant but it can reveal your personal information as well even when your device is locked. If you do not want for it to do that, the following shows how to remove it from your lock screen.
Step 1. Open the Settings app on your device and tap on Siri. It will open Siri settings menu.
Step 2. Turn off the option that says Access When Locked. Siri will no longer be available on your lock screen.
