Before talking about restarting iPhone, let’s distinguish several confusing terms: restart, reboot, force restart, and reset.
Restart and reboot mean the same thing, namely to turn an electronic device off and then turn it on again, without changing settings, such as restart your iPhone, iPad or something like that. Restarting something is a common task that you can do on all sorts of devices if they’re not acting as you expect. You can restart/reboot a router, modem, laptop, tablet, smart device, phone, desktop computer, etc.
More technically speaking, to reboot or restart an iPhone means to cycle the power state. When you turn the iPhone off, it’s not receiving power. When it’s turned back on, it is getting power.
Simply to say, sometimes your iPhone or iPad might have hung and become so unresponsive or even complete refusing to give any react, in this case, to force restart or hard reboot instead of restarting with the traditional method.
Compared with restart and force restart, the reset has completely different meanings. Resetting is the same as erasing. To reset an iPhone is to put it back in the same state it was in when it was first purchased, often called a restore or factory reset (also a hard reset or master reset). What needs to be noticed is that resetting iPhone will make your phone back to its default settings, changes you made on your phone will be erased.
