Each time I do an update of iPadOS since the release of iOS 14, I am required to reset my password for the Apple Mail App Outlook Account. I am also required to do a MFA which is usually only required when I change my password. what is happening?

Recently, more and more people reported their iPhone or iPad keeps asking for an email password after updating to iOS 14, even the later iOS 14.1 and iOS 14.2. Just as the above user said, Outlook is constantly requiring to re-enter password. Other mail apps like Hotmail may also have this issue, which happens every day or two days for an unknown reason. And sometimes when users fill in e-mail address, however, it doesn’t accept the account and gives the error said “You can’t sign in here with a personal account. use our work or school account instead”.

If you are meeting the Mail app keeps asking for password or can’t log in at all and don’t know how to deal with it. Then you can read this post and find some ideas.

Why This Issue Happens

Someone said it’s iOS related because they got it since the latest iOS update. Some others found it’s not “I doubt this is iOS related, I thought it’d be failed attempts from someone trying to access my account, so I went to check the security settings on my Microsoft account (using my laptop) just to find out that Microsoft doesn’t seem to find my account! When I try to log in I get a message saying that my account doesn’t exist!  An hour later I was able to log in, however, I still get the password error even though I entered it again and entered the TSA new code as well.  This must be someone wrong on Microsoft’s side.”

For a different reason, the following are some methods you can try to fix keep asking for password:

Try to Delete and Re-add Email Accounts

First, you can try to delete then re-add your accounts when it went wrong for an unknown reason. And someone said it works, but others said sometimes when I need to fill in the password again I first get on a page to fill in my e-mail address however it doesn’t accept the account and gives the error that I need to use my work or education account. I do not have a work or student account!

Try to Add Another Email Accounts

Some users said they got 4 different accounts signed in the Apple Mail app. And except Outlook and Hotmail, Yahoo and Gmail are working well. They do not ask for any password at all. So, if you’re suffering from keep asking for passwords regularly, you can add another Email account to the Mail app.

Update to the Newest iOS Version

If this issue is iOS related, then Apple will try to fix it when the next iOS version released.
