What is Lost Mode on iPhone/iPad

Lost Mode is a feature of Find My iPhone that allows you to display a message along with a phone number on your lost device. This way, when someone finds your iPhone or iPad device, they know exactly who the device belongs to and they can even contact you by calling on the number that you have added as a message to your lost device.

You can turn on Lost Mode for your iPhone and iPad from either the iCloud website or the Find My app on your devices.

1. What Happens When iPhone Goes into Lost Mode

The following actions are taken when you enable the Lost Mode for your iOS device. These things ensure that the data stored on your device remains safe, and that there is a way for the person who has got your device to reach out to you with your contact details.

Message and Phone Number

When you use iCloud to enable the mode, you are offered an option to add a phone number as well as a custom message to your lost device’s screen. This message and your phone number are immediately displayed on your device when you turn on the Lost Mode.

Call Button

If your lost device had phone call capabilities like if it was an iPhone, a Call button will appear on the screen allowing the user to call the specified number. This way, when someone finds the device, they can tap on this button to get in touch with you.

Apple Pay Deactivation

As soon as the Lost Mode is enabled, all Apple Pay functions are deactivated to ensure your money is safe. Anyone who finds your device will not be able to perform any transactions with this payment service.

Low Power Mode

Apple wants to keep the custom message and phone number displayed on your lost device’s screen for as long as possible. Because of that, Lost Mode enables the Low Power Mode on your iOS device so that your device runs for a maximum amount of time with the available battery charge.

No Access to Any Features on the Device

All other features of your device get deactivated when you use Lost Mode. This is to ensure anyone who gets access to your phone cannot read your messages and other app notifications.
