How to Fix iCloud Restore Stuck

Apple provides you with a couple of ways to backup your iOS-based devices. The first method is to use the iTunes app on your computer to create a local backup of your device. The other method is to use the iCloud backup. While some users report that their restorations from iCloud get stuck for some reason on their iPhones.

If that happens to you, there are basically two things that you can do: you can either restart the restoration process or you can stop the current iCloud restoration and then do the process at a later time. Part 1. How to Get iPhone to Finish Restoring from iCloud Backup

Method 1. Restart the iPhone and Restore Once Again

The easiest way to get around a stuck iCloud backup process is to restart the process. You can do this by first ending the current restoration process and then restarting the process from the beginning. You are going to reboot your iPhone to do this.

Since restoring a backup erases your data, you need to make sure that everything that you need on your phone is backed up somewhere safe. Then, restore your iPhone from an iCloud backup once again.

Step 1. Reboot your iPhone so that the current restoration process gets interrupted. You can do this for various iPhone models as follows.

  1. Press the Volume Up button and release it.

  3. Press and hold down the Side button until the Apple logo appears.

  1. Press and hold down both Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneously.
  2. Release the buttons when the Apple logo appears.

  1. Press and hold down both Home and Power buttons together.
  2. Release the buttons when you see the Apple logo on your screen.

Step 2. Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap on Erase All Content and Settings.

Step 3. Set up your phone and select Restore from iCloud Backup on the Apps & Data screen.

Step 4. Select your iCloud backup and it will be restored on your iPhone.

Method 2. Stop a Stuck iCloud Recovery on iPhone

Apple does allow you to stop restoring from an iCloud backup if you decide you do not want to proceed with the process. This is a useful option to use when your iPhone’s iCloud restoration process is stuck somewhere.

The following shows how to stop a stuck iCloud restore on an iPhone.

Step 1. Launch the Settings app and tap on your name banner at the top.

Step 2. Tap on iCloud followed by iCloud Backup to view your backups.

Step 3. Select the option that says Stop Restoring iPhone to end the restoration process.

Step 4. Tap on Stop in the prompt as well to stop the process.

Your iCloud backup will no longer be installed on your iPhone.

What happens if I stop restoring iPhone from iCloud?

iPhone doesn’t provide a data list that has been restored or not yet. So, if you stop the restoring process from iCloud, you will not have any idea as to what was restored or what wasn’t, and sometimes, you may lose data. So you need to note that there’s another iPhone backup on your computer or other external storage.
